Hello everyone! If you are just starting out or you’re familiar with the game, there is always something new to learn. Playing chess is known to build strategic thinking with practice. If you’re just starting, understanding simple opening ideas can be a good first step. No worries if you lose early on, since each match teaches a lesson. Practicing often against different opponents helps you improve faster. Observing experienced opponents can also speed things up, particularly when you focus on how plans are formed. With experience, you will feel more confident. Most importantly, stay relaxed. Chess improves with time, and makes more sense the more you play.
I am kinda new to Python & started messing around with APIs but honestly I am confused ?. Also I have seen a bunch of tutorials online but most of them either go way too deep or skip over the basics. I just want to understand the flow of how an API call works in Python. such as what happens when we use `requests.get()`? & how do we deal with the JSON response properly?

Also, what is the best way to test API responses while learning? Should I use something like Postman or just stick to code?

If someone could explain it such as I am five . Code examples or simple analogies would be amazing. Just trying to wrap my head around it without feeling such as my brain’s gonna melt lol.

Hello everyone,

I’m new to website development and I’m looking for some guidance on how to set up a basic website on my local server. I’ve installed a local server (using XAMPP) on my computer, and I’ve managed to get the server up and running. However, I’m struggling to understand the next steps in setting up my website.
At this point, I have some basic HTML and CSS files that I want to test on my local server. I’ve placed them in the correct directory (htdocs in XAMPP), but when I try to access the website through localhost, nothing shows up. I’ve double-checked the file names and paths, and they seem correct.
Could someone please explain what I might be missing? Do I need to configure something else in the server settings, or is there an issue with how I’m trying to access the files? Also, if anyone has suggestions on any basic resources or tutorials for someone just starting, that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello there,

I am reaching out to this knowledgeable community for some advice and insights on planning a sustainable community garden in my neighborhood. Our goal is to create a space where local residents can come together to grow their own food; foster a sense of community; and promote sustainability.

What are the most important factors to consider when choosing a location for the garden? We are looking at a few vacant lots; but I am not sure what to prioritize beyond soil quality and sunlight.

Are there any design principles or layouts that work particularly well for community gardens? We are hoping to maximize space and ensure it is accessible for all community members; including those with disabilities.

What sustainable gardening practices would you recommend we implement from the start? We are interested in composting; rainwater harvesting; and organic gardening; but I am sure there are other methods we have not considered.

How have you successfully engaged your community in similar projects? We are thinking about organizing workshops and volunteer days; but I would love to hear about any creative ideas or effective strategies that have worked for you.

Also; I have gone through this post: https://yab.orgfree.com/forum/archive/in...d-133.htmlminitab which definitely helped me out a lot.

Every week or two I download a new nightly image and see if it will boot. I load the desktop rather than the installer, then test networking, sound and run a few of the included apps to see how this hrev holds up. If it looks stable I boot to the hard disk, take a deep breath and update my haiku installations using Jim's update script.

I will be reporting my progress here. Please feel free to join in. Keep 2 things in mind:

1. This is not for the Haiku devs' benefit. It is to inform fellow users which nighlies are stable enough to install. This does not absolve you from filing tickets.
2. My chosen test medium is an ISO burned to CDR. If you are getting a different result (or the same one) burning .anyboot to a USB thumb drive, or running a raw image in a virtual PC, please specify that.

If you want to launch an app already minimized, you can use the powerful, but woefully underdocumented Haiku utility "hey"

For example, I have BeShare in my /boot/home/config/settings/boot/launch folder. But I don't really want to see it the moment I boot up.

Here is a way to start it up minimized. Well, not really, if your computer is slow it will flash on the screen briefly.

edit /boot/home/config/settings/boot/UserBootscript. Right at the end insert the line

Code:

sleep 2
hey BeShare set Minimize of Window [0] to "bool(true)"

"hey" is case-sensitive and every space counts. You may need to experiment with the value of the sleep command if you have a fast machine.

OK, mandatory yab content coming up: This works for yab apps too.

I just tried it some times to recompile EGLS on Haiku nightlys, but i does not get them compiling, because my exierience in pascale and lua are zero ;-).

Anyone knows someone who can trie to make EGLS running on Haiku again? The EGLS language are a little language like yab to make arcade games. I write in yab a IDE for it and want to rebuild it for current nightly builds but withour running EGLS this does not make sense. Because the main developer of EGSL stop to develop this language and make a completly new one (EGSL2 = Pulsar 2D) so we does not can get this from him.
